Cheap Travel Ideas

Many people have the mistaken notion that it takes a lot of money to travel, but with all the information available online today it is easy to compare the cost of transportation, accomodations, and any other expense. There are travel sites and forums where people can post about how their travel experiences turned out, and a lot can be learned just by reading these comments. What someone may have thought was a great destination may not be, while another that was never considered could be a diamond in the rough.

If planning to visit an overseas destination, there are many options for those that live in major international gateway cities which are served by several airlines. Traveling after the summer travel rush or whenever a price war erupts can save a lot of money. If the journey will start far away from a gateway city, the cost of getting there first has to be added to the total travel budget.

In recent years the cruise ship industry has grown and added many ships offering an array of floating amenities. When the separate cost of sightseeing, traveling, lodging, and food are added, it’s easy to see what a bargain the cruise lines offer. Wise travelers can book a cruise far ahead during the slow season while choosing one of the smaller cabins on their ship, and get a terrific deal.

If staying in the country several discount airlines offer low fares to many major cities and resort destinations, often flying into smaller airports close to town. If traveling light, it is easy to take public transportation or an airport shuttle service and avoid expensive cabs. Although people may avoid them in their daily life, the fast food chains and convenience stores provide inexpensive dining when traveling.

Intercity bus service may be considered too slow by many, but they can be a good choice between large cities not far apart, and they offer internet-only fares that are great deals plus no airport transportation expense. For extended trips both the bus lines and the railroad may offer unlimited mileage deals for two weeks or more, a lot of traveling for the money.

Although there are several low-cost airlines offering bargain fares, there has been a recent trend to offer lower fares in exchange for optional baggage and in-flight meal fees. Travelers must now budget for these expenses, and carefully consider their preferred airlines.
